    About the Roles

    The assistants are the primary contact for associated departments/offices including foot traffic, phone calls, and general e-mails.  They prepare electronic and print communications, maintain department/office and budget records, assist with appointments/schedules, coordinate meetings and minutes, manage office spaces, take care of equipment and supply needs, help with special events, and handle internal and external mail.  Additionally, the assistants supervise student employees during the academic year including scheduling, training, and evaluating.

    Position Qualifications

    Successful applicants must have the following qualifications and experience:

    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Minimum of two years of relevant experience
    • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and multifunction printers
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and customer service skills

    About the Role 

    The Career Development and Life Design (CDLD) Program Manager (PM) leads the event planning, coordination, and implementation for Hollins’ annual Career Connection Conference (C3), J-Term internship alumnae/i events, spring senior launch events, recruiter presentations, and year-round workshop events.  The PM also coordinates events with the Student Success, Well-Being, and Belonging division such as student orientations, collaborations with HU Connect, and small events in residence halls.  As the lead event planner for CDLD, the PM develops the annual events budget and stewards financial resources budgeted for office events.  Additionally, the PM collaborates with other CDLD staff to provide career advising to students, facilitating a limited number of career-related workshops, and they have primary responsibility for CDLD student staff onboarding and training.  This position reports to the Director of the Center for Career Development and Life Design.

    Specific duties include the following:

    • Plan CDLD events and C3 in collaboration with other CDLD staff and campus partners such as Alumnae/i Relations; Admission; and Student Success, Well-Being, and Belonging.
    • Coordinate promotion and advertising of events with CDLD team and student staff responsible for communications planning.
    • Ensure that spaces are reserved, sessions are scheduled with appropriate stakeholders, materials are secured, and CDLD calendars are updated for events.
    • Draft budgets for events and track spending.
    • Design, coordinate, and deliver CDLD student staff onboarding and trainings.
    • In coordination with other CDLD staff, plan employer recruiting events held both on and off campus.

  • Children’s Literature Program Director

    Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia invites applications to serve as the full-time program director for its graduate Children’s Literature and Children’s Book Illustration programs. Primary responsibilities focus on the administration and guidance of Hollins’ M.F.A./M.A. in Children’s Literature, M.F.A. in Children’s Book Writing and Illustrating, related certificate programs, and the launch of the university’s new year-round residential option for these programs. The position also carries a teaching load of one or two courses per academic year. The teaching load typically includes one summer course during the six-week session of the Children’s Literature graduate programs and may include online or hybrid courses.

    About the Program

    In 1992, the summer graduate programs in children’s literature began offering both literature and creative writing courses toward an M.A. in Children’s Literature. The popularity of creative writing led to the addition of an M.F.A. in Children’s Literature in 2005. In 2011, the program added a Certificate in Children’s Book Illustration, followed in 2015 by an M.F.A. in Children’s Book Writing and Illustrating, both designed by and taught by visiting faculty. The year-round option will permit international students to more easily enroll in the program.

    About the Position

    The program director will assume academic and administrative responsibility for Hollins’ graduate Children’s Literature programs and will serve as the program liaison and advisor. In partnership with relevant campus offices, the director will participate in recruitment and enrollment activities, help improve student life and belonging, and seek out and coordinate internships for students enrolled in the programs. Additionally, the director will help recruit and hire faculty, collaborate in curriculum development, and teach one or two courses per academic year, primarily at the graduate level. The position will report to the Vice President for Graduate Programs and Continuing Studies and will work with him and other graduate program directors and university colleagues to develop effective academic initiatives and grow the programs. The director will play a vital role in the future of Children’s Literature programs and initiatives at Hollins, including the collaborative work of planning ambitious new academic outreach projects designed to serve broad public and community audiences, researchers, and K-12 educators.

    Position Qualifications

    The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and a strong interest in working with a diverse community of students. The ideal candidate will hold an M.F.A. or Ph.D. in Children’s Literature and/or Illustration or Creative Writing or related academic disciplines and have at least three years of collegiate teaching experience. Additionally, the ideal candidate will have experience across multiple genres (ex. picture book, middle grade, and young adult literature) and in online learning environments.

    About the Role 

    The equestrian fellow will gain exposure to all aspects of barn management, including proper horse care, as well as the upkeep and maintenance of riding facilities.  Depending on experience, the fellow may support teaching of riding lessons.  This position reports to the Director of the Equestrian Program & Head Riding Coach, works in collaboration with the Assistant to the Director, and also supervises work-study students.

    Specific duties include the following:

    • Maintain clean, organized, and sanitary stables by adhering closely to established protocols including stall cleaning, cleaning and disinfecting of all areas, trash removal, etc.
    • Feed, water, groom (including body clipping), and handle horses
    • Administer therapeutic treatments to horses

    Position Qualifications

    • Minimum of five years of riding experience in the hunter/jumper discipline
    • Thorough understanding and working knowledge of equine first aid, bandaging, clipping, trimming/pulling, lunging, schooling, and sole change

    • Willingness to support teaching and coaching in the forward riding system

This position strengthens and promotes the university’s brand, enhancing visibility and engaging target audiences through the production of high-quality, relevant content that is designed for multiple marketing channels (ex. web, digital communications, and social media) and distributed in a strategic and integrated manner. The Multimedia Specialist determines the most effective communication channels for each marketing initiative and develops written and multimedia content that resonates with key audiences and captures the vibrancy of academic and campus life at Hollins. This position reports to the Executive Director of Marketing and Communications.

    Specific duties include the following:

    • Videography
      • Develop creative, innovative, responsive, and engaging video material targeting primary audiences that directly supports and promotes the university’s strategic initiatives, brand, strengths, distinctions, and key themes and messagesThis work includes storyline and script development; coordination of interviews; providing additional details (ex. design effects, voiceovers, music, etc.) as needed to accentuate the message and its effectiveness; and producing, editing, and uploading the video material to the web and other platforms.
      • Attend and cover on- and off-campus events and programs as needed to produce compelling written and multimedia content that supports marketing initiatives and institutional priorities

    • Social Media
      • Develop and maintain cohesive effective short- and long-term social media strategies
      • Continuously update and monitor Hollins’ presence on the university’s main social media pages and other external platforms for issues that need to be addressed

    Position Qualifications

    Successful applicants must have the following qualifications and experience:

    • Minimum of three years of experience in managing all aspects of video production projects including:

  • Screenwriting and Film Studies Program Director

    Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia invites applications to serve as program director for its graduate Screenwriting and Film Studies programs. Primary responsibilities focus on the administration and guidance of Hollins’ M.F.A. in Screenwriting, M.A. in Screenwriting and Film Studies, and the development of any related certificate programs. The teaching load typically includes one summer course during the six-week session of the low-residency M.F.A. program and may include online or hybrid courses.     About the Program

    In 1999, Hollins introduced a M.A. in Screenwriting and Film Studies, offering both creative and critical courses as part of a rigorous graduate curriculum. In 2006, the program added a low-residency, summer-based M.F.A. in Screenwriting. Small classes with personalized instruction are foundational to the programs, and students learn directly from experienced professionals with long and impressive lists of credentials. The programs’ focus on screenwriting, filmmaking, and the critical and scholarly analysis of film as a creative art form provides a broad foundation for creative work or as a stepping stone for further study toward a Ph.D.

    About the Position

    The program director will assume academic and administrative responsibility for Hollins’ graduate Screenwriting and Film Studies programs. This position will serve as the program liaison and advisor and provide academic support for students enrolled in the expanding portfolio of graduate degree and certificate programs. The program director will review student applications, make admission decisions, and will work with campus colleagues to increase enrollments, including applications from international students. The program director will also hold regular office hours for students to seek assistance as needed with academic or student life issues. This position will report to the Vice President for Graduate Programs and Continuing Studies (VPGPCS) and will assist him in marketing and recruitment planning for the program, and will seek out and coordinate internships and experiential learning opportunities for students enrolled in the program. Additionally, the program director will recruit and hire faculty, provide leadership for curriculum development, and teach two or three courses per academic year, including one during the six-week summer session. This position will also work with the VPGPCS and other graduate program directors and university colleagues to develop effective academic and programmatic plans.

    Position Qualifications

    The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills and ability to teach a variety of courses in screenwriting and film studies. The ideal candidate will have a M.F.A. or Ph.D. in a related academic discipline, academic or practical experience in documentary film and film preservation and archiving with a relevant publishing record, at least three years of collegiate teaching experience, and experience in online learning environments.
