From the Roanoke Valley, Mary Walsh is a Hollins alumna and emerging composer who writes music in a variety of styles for vocal, instrumental, and electronic mediums. Mary graduated from Hollins in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in music composition and a certificate in arts management. Mary completed her master’s degree in music composition in the spring of 2023 at the University of Kentucky. Her thesis is titled “Incorporating Activism Into Contemporary Music: An Analysis of a Composition Portfolio.” While at the University of Kentucky, Mary was a graduate teaching assistant in music theory and an elementary school music teacher.
Mary currently serves as the director of music at Northview United Methodist Church and is a music instructor at Roanoke Valley Music Studio where she teaches a variety of instruments and styles of music.
