Level Up! is a one-week, no-cost residential summer bridge program designed to help incoming Hollins students transition successfully into college. The program focuses on building community, strengthening academic skills, and increasing confidence before the academic year begins.

  • Who is eligible to participate?

    Level Up! is intended for incoming first-year students at Hollins University. The program is especially designed to support first-generation and economically disadvantaged students who would benefit from additional transition support. 

  • Is there a cost to participate?

    The program is designed to be accessible, and there are no fees to participate.

  • What does the program include?

    Participants will receive: 

    • Early move-in to campus housing  
    • Meals throughout the program  
    • Workshops and academic sessions  
    • Peer mentorship and cohort experience  
    • Program materials and resources  
    • Off-campus excursions and activities  
  • When does the program take place?

    The Level Up! program runs from August 22–28, 2026, just before the start of the fall semester. 

  • Where will I stay during the program?

    Students will live in Hollins residence halls during the program. This provides an opportunity to get comfortable with campus living before the semester begins. 

  • What will I do each day?

    Each day includes a mix of: 

    • Academic success workshops  
    • Wellness and resilience sessions  
    • Group activities and cohort-building  
    • Campus resource sessions  
    • Reflection circles with peer mentors  
    • Social and community engagement experiences  
  • What is a peer mentor?

    Peer mentors are current Hollins students who support participants throughout the program. They serve as guides, role models, and resources, helping you navigate both the program and your transition into college life. 

  • Will this help me academically?

    Yes. Level Up! includes sessions on time management, study strategies, and navigating academic expectations. Students will also create a personal academic success plan to use during their first semester. 

  • What if I feel nervous about starting college?

    That’s completely normal and exactly why Level Up! exists. The program is designed to help you build confidence, meet other students, and feel supported before the semester begins. 

  • Will I meet other students before classes start?

    Yes! One of the biggest benefits of Level Up! is forming early connections. You’ll build relationships with your cohort, peer mentors, and campus staff before the broader student body arrives. 

  • Are there activities outside of campus?

    Yes. Students will participate in experiences in the Roanoke Valley, which may include community service, outdoor activities, or cultural exploration. 

  • What should I bring?

    You should bring: 

    • Comfortable clothing for workshops and activities  
    • Activewear for wellness sessions (e.g., yoga, outdoor activities)  
    • Personal items for your residence hall room  
    • Any required health or campus documentation

  • Can I work or have other commitments during the program?

    Because Level Up! is a full, immersive experience, students are expected to fully participate in all scheduled activities. Outside commitments are strongly discouraged during this week. 

  • How do I apply?

    You will be asked to submit a short application. Selected students will be notified prior to the start of the program.
