Academic Excellence Awards

All students, regardless of family income, receive a renewable academic merit scholarship of at least $24,000 upon admission.

Award Amount Eligibility
Artemis Scholarship for Women in STEM Cost of tuition, food, housing, fees, and more, fully covered with no loans New first-year, full-time students intending to major in STEM are eligible. Recipients must be U.S. citizens and eligible for the federal Pell Grant. The household income of $65,000 is an estimated ceiling; most families at or below this income range will qualify for the Pell Grant. FAFSA submission is required (Hollins FAFSA code: 003715). Interested students are encouraged to apply for admission by the December 1 deadline and complete the Artemis application. Interview required.
Batten Scholarship Full tuition for four years The Batten Scholarship provides full tuition to select students. Interested students are encouraged to apply by the Early Decision/Early Action deadlines. Interview required.
Hollins Opportunity for Promise through Education ( HOPE) Cost of tuition, food, housing, and required fees fully covered with no loans New first-year, full-time students are eligible. Recipients must be U.S. citizens and eligible for the federal Pell Grant. The household income of $65,000 is an estimated ceiling; most families at or below this income range will qualify for the Pell Grant. FAFSA submission is required (Hollins FAFSA code: 003715).

Beginning in fall 2025, admitted first-year students with a family income of approximately $65,000* or less can attend Hollins with the direct cost of tuition, food, housing, and fees fully covered with no loans.

New first-year, full-time students are eligible. Recipients must be US citizens and eligible for the federal Pell Grant. The household income of $65,000 is an estimated ceiling; most families at or below this income range will qualify for the federal Pell Grant.  FAFSA submission is required (Hollins FAFSA code: 003715).

Eligible students are encouraged to apply for admission by November 1 through Early Decision (binding) or Early Action (non-binding) programs.

Phi Theta Kappa Scholarship Up to $2,000 per year This scholarship is designed for students who transfer to Hollins from another college and who are members of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society.
Community College Access Program (CCAP) Transfer Students Up to $2,000 per year For students transferring to Hollins directly from Virginia Western Community’s Colleges Community College Access Program (CCAP)

Need-based Financial Aid

Hollins is fortunate to offer undergraduate students generous need-based aid. For consideration, students must submit the FAFSA (Hollins code 003715).

Award Amount Eligibility
Endowed Scholarships Varies Eligibility; awarded to eligible undergraduate students. Each scholarship is awarded based on criteria specific to that fund (e.g. state of residence or desired academic pathway).
Transfer Awards Up to $26,000 per year Eligible for transfer students and Adult Horizon students.
Award based on the student’s previous academic performance in high school and college. Students with a college GPA of 2.75 or greater qualify for at least a one-half tuition scholarship for two years.

Music From $1,000 up to $10,000 per year For students with talent in music – including scholarships for potential majors and non-majors.

International Friendship Grant

Admitted first-year international students receive a merit-based International Friendship Grant of at least $25,000.

International Friendship Award At least $24,000 per year These awards, for non-U.S. citizens, are based on academic performance. A limited number of scholarships are available.

Visit Grant Up to $1,000 One-time visit grant of up to $1,000 for admitted students who visit before May 1. As their direct costs are fully covered, HOPE recipients are not eligible for this opportunity.
Alumnae Referral Scholarship All Students $500 Provides a one-time, one-year $500 grant to a student referred by an alumna before she is admitted to Hollins. The referral form must be submitted before or at the time of the student’s application.
The Sunflower Initiative $10,000 The Sunflower Initiative is the nation’s only independent organization fully dedicated to providing scholarships to students who choose to attend a women’s college. Read more about applying for the Harriet Fitzgerald Scholarship here.
Descendants of the Hollins Community Scholarship Up to Full Tuition Eligible for new traditional-age students, new transfer students, and new Adult Horizon students.

Cristo Ray Network University Partner Program Varies As part of the partnership, Hollins University will offer competitive financial aid packaging to Cristo Rey students, including an annual award that meets no less than 100% of student’s demonstrated need with no required loans — tuition, fees, and on-campus food and housing, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder student success—for five to ten CRN students.
