Hollins University has received $11,190 from the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV) to support on-campus initiatives addressing student food insecurity.
SCHEV awarded a total of $500,000 to 48 public and private institutions of higher education in the Commonwealth. The grants are funded by the Hunger-Free Campus Food Pantry Grant Program, enacted by the General Assembly in 2025.
“This grant will directly strengthen our ability to ensure that no student has to choose between meeting basic needs and focusing on their education,” Vice President for Student Success, Well-being, and Belonging Tiffany Hinton said. “The award will allow us to expand and enhance our campus food pantry by improving storage capacity, increasing access to nutritious and culturally responsive food options, and implementing systems that help us maintain a consistent supply.”

“I’m so excited for the possibilities ahead to expand access, recognize our wonderful volunteers, and create consistency and excellent resources through the pantry,” University Chaplain and Director of Interfaith Belonging Lindsey Moser said.
“Ultimately, this grant strengthens our mission to support the whole student and ensures that Hollins remains a caring, responsive community where every student has the opportunity to thrive,” Hinton said.
Hollins’ campus Food Pantry is located in duPont Chapel and is open Monday through Friday from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. It is part of the university chapel’s Center of Care, which also includes the Free Store, Career Closet, and Campus Lactation Room. The center serves as a one-stop, welcoming space where students can access food, basic hygiene items, professional attire, and lactation support at no cost.
“We are deeply grateful for funding from the General Assembly, as well as support from Reunion Weekend giving, the Hollins Against Period Poverty Initiative, and a coalition of alumni, faculty, staff, community partners, and donors,” Hinton said. “Together, these investments allow Hollins to address student food insecurity and meet the diverse and evolving needs of our students.”
