Children’s Literature M.A. or M.F.A.

  • Tuition for the 2025 summer term is $900 per credit hour.
  • Hollins may offer partial tuition remission to certain qualified students, and student loans are also available.
  • To apply, applicants should indicate their financial need on the application for admission and must also complete the FAFSA. There is also a $40 nonrefundable processing fee.
  • New students must pay a nonrefundable deposit of $400 within two weeks of their acceptance. Returning students must pay a nonrefundable deposit of $200 by May 16.
    • All deposits will be credited toward summer tuition charges.
  • Summer housing is available for $34 per day.

    • To apply, complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), found online at https://studentaid.gov/.
    • Wait a few weeks for the paperwork to clear, and then contact our Office of Scholarships and Financial Assistance at (540) 362-6332 or sfa@hollins.edu to follow-up on the paperwork.

Creative Writing M.F.A.

Applications are currently being accepted for fall 2025.

  • Tuition for M.F.A. graduate students is $23,200 for the 2025-26 academic year.
  • New students must pay a nonrefundable deposit of $500 due within three weeks of acceptance.
    • All deposits will be credited toward the fall semester’s technology and health services fees.
  • All students receive assistance from various endowed scholarships.
  • Technology fee: $340 per term for full-time students; $170 per term for part-time students; $175 for the summer term.
  • Health Services: $50 for students in residence during summer term. $197.50 per term for on-campus programs during the fall and spring terms.

Dance M.F.A.

  • Tuition for the 60-credit degree is $975 per credit hour for the 2025-26 academic year.
    • The degree is divided over four terms or seven terms. Every track begins in the summer.
  • The typical budget for a student will include technology, media, thesis, portfolio fees, and if on campus, health services fees.
  • New students must pay a nonrefundable deposit of $500 due within three weeks of acceptance.
    • All deposits will be credited toward the semester’s tuition charges.

  • Technology fee: $340 per term for full-time students; $170 per term for part-time students; $175 for the summer term.

Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (M.A.L.S.)

  • Tuition for the 2025-26 academic year is $440 per credit hour.
    • Licensed, practicing teachers receive a $100 per course discount, provided proper documentation is submitted.
  • Students must pay a nonrefundable deposit of $100 at the beginning of each semester.
    • All deposits will be credited toward the semester’s tuition charges.
  • Technology fee: $340 per term for full-time students; $170 per term for part-time students; $175 for the summer term.
  • Health Services: $50 for students in residence during summer term. $197.50 per term for on-campus programs during the fall and spring terms.

Playwriting M.F.A.

  • Tuition for the 2025 summer term is $900 per credit hour or $10,800 for the normal load of three (3) four-credit courses.
  • Hollins may offer partial tuition remission to certain qualified students, and student loans are also available.

  • New students must pay a nonrefundable deposit of $400 within two weeks of their acceptance. Returning students must pay a nonrefundable deposit of $200 by May 16.

 Screenwriting & Film Studies M.A. or M.F.A.

  • Tuition is $900 per credit hour or $3600 for each four-credit course or $7,200 for the normal term load of two four-credit courses.
  • Hollins may offer partial tuition remission to certain qualified students, and student loans are also available.
  • Technology fee: $340 per term for full-time students; $170 per term for part-time students; $175 for the summer term.
  • A nonrefundable enrollment deposit of $400 is due from new students within two weeks of their acceptance. This deposit will be credited to the student’s account and reflected on the fall term billing.
  • A nonrefundable enrollment deposit of $200 is due from returning students no later 28 days prior to the first class of a course. This deposit indicates the student’s intent to enroll for the coming term and will be credited to his or her account.
  • Summer housing is available for $34 per day.
  • Alumni are welcome to return for select courses if space allows and will receive a 15% discount.

Teaching

Licensure & Master’s Degree

  • Hollins offers a grant to cover the 12-credit hours of student teaching. For the 2025-26 academic year, that is a savings of  $5,280.
  • Tuition for the 2025-26 academic year is $440 per credit hour.
  • Students must pay a nonrefundable deposit of $100 at the beginning of each semester.
    • All deposits will be credited toward the semester’s tuition charges.
  • Technology fee: $340 per term for full-time students; $170 per term for part-time students; $175 for the summer term.

Licensure-Only Program

  • Tuition is $440 per credit hour.
  • You are eligible to apply for financial aid, provided you take at least two courses per term.
  • Technology fee: $340 per term for full-time students; $170 per term for part-time students; $175 for the summer term.
  • Health Services: $50 for students in residence during summer term. $197.50 per term for on-campus programs during the fall and spring terms.

Teaching and Learning M.A.

  • Tuition for the 2025-26 academic year is $440 per credit hour.
