Hollins to Host, Compete in the 24th Annual VFIC Ethics Bowl, January 28-29 vfic logo

Hollins University is welcoming collegiate teams from across the commonwealth to participate in the Virginia Foundation for Independent Colleges’ (VFIC) 24th annual Ethics Bowl, presented by TowneBank, January 28-29.

Student teams from Virginia’s leading independent colleges and universities will compete against one another head-to-head, deliberating a variety of case studies relating to this year’s Ethics Bowl theme, “Ethics and the Environment.”

Hollins team members include Merritt ’24, Shasta Power ’26, and Zoe Simotas ’25. Associate Professor of Philosophy James Downey and Visiting Assistant Professor Charles Lowney are the team’s faculty coordinators.

Many notable individuals from a variety of career fields, including business, law, education, finance, journalism, and others, will listen to team presentations and offer reactions to the students’ presentations.

The 2024 VFIC Ethics Bowl’s opening session takes place on Sunday, January 28, at 2:45 p.m. in Hollins’ Babcock Auditorium, with the first round of competition scheduled for 3:30 p.m. in various locations in the Dana Science Building, Moody Student Center, and the Richard Wetherill Visual Arts Center. On Monday, January 29, rounds three and four will begin at 8:45 a.m. The final round of competition will take place at 11:20 a.m. in Babcock.

The public is invited to attend the competition rounds free of charge. The winning team will be announced at 12:30 p.m. on Monday.
