Hollins is proud to recognize our alumnae/i and friends with the following awards.

Hollins Medal 1967

The Hollins Medal

Upon the approval of the Board of Trustees, Hollins Medals are awarded “for distinction, service to Hollins University and to woman’s life and education in general.” The medal is a personal manifestation of mutual affection to those who have shown a demonstrated commitment to Hollins.


Distinguished Alumnae Award

Established in 2006, the Distinguished Alumnae Award recognizes individual alumnae who have brought distinction to themselves and to Hollins through broad and inspiring personal or career achievements, volunteer service, or contributions to society.

Distinguished Young Alumna Award

This award recognizes a member of the 5th, 10th, or 15th Reunion Year Class, with extraordinary accomplishments after graduation.


Pat Thomas Bain ’49 Award

We present the Bain Award at reunion to the individual or group whose efforts have achieved a significant increase in Hollins Fund participation.

The Alumnae Association established the Pat Thomas Bain Award in 1993 as a loving tribute to one of our most loyal alumnae, the late Pat Thomas Bain, Class of 1949. Pat served Hollins as a member of the Board of Trustees for more than 14 years, until her death in 1992.


Rath Award

The Rath Award is given annually to an alumna or alumnae whose participation in the life of Hollins is extraordinary and whose personal investment of time and effort in the institution over the years represents the very best of the Hollins spirit.

This award is named in honor of the late Rath sisters — Luise, Class of 1919; Gertrud, Class of 1922; and Virginia, Class of 1924 — who were great-granddaughters of Hollins’ founder Charles Lewis Cocke.


Athletic Hall of Fame

The Athletic Hall of Fame honors members of the Hollins community who have demonstrated superior athletic accomplishments at Hollins, as well as sportsmanship, character, and leadership at Hollins and/or in their community. Induction of new members takes place at Alumnae Reunion each year.


Betsy Green Grubbs ’72 Award

We present this award to a Hollins alumna or Hollins community member who has made a significant contribution in the arts.

The Alumnae Board established the award in 2002 in honor of former Alumnae Relations Director and member of the class of 1972, Betsy Green Grubbs.


Hollins Award for Volunteer Excellence (HAVE)

The Alumnae Association Board of Directors present this award to alumnae who exemplify excellence in volunteering for Hollins through a specific project or for overall spirit.


Outstanding Admission Ambassador Award

This award honors an individual who has demonstrated sustained commitment to the alumnae admission volunteer effort. This individual has answered the call for service, and is committed to assisting in the recruitment of bright, talented scholars to Hollins.


Reunion Class Giving Awards

This award honors an individual who has demonstrated sustained commitment to the alumnae admission volunteer effort. This individual has answered the call for service, and is committed to assisting in the recruitment of bright, talented scholars to Hollins.

Catherine Orgill West ’51 Award

Hollins created the Catherine Orgill West Award in 2001 to honor the reunion-year class with the highest participation in giving to the Hollins Fund. Catherine West’s outreach to her class on the occasion of their 50th reunion resulted in an unparalleled 100 percent participation in giving by the class of 1951.

Tinker Mountain Award

Given to the reunion-year class that raises the largest total gift for the Hollins Fund.

Hollins Rock Award

We award this to the reunion-year class within the last 10 years with the highest Hollins Fund participation.
