• Is Hollins really free for HOPE Scholars?

  

  The cost of tuition is covered for HOPE scholars for all four years, including any year over year tuition increases. HOPE scholars will be required to pay student fees, including the technology fee, green fee, and student government fee. HOPE scholars who live on campus will be responsible for the cost of room and board.

• If I receive a HOPE Scholarship, do I still need to take student loans?

  

  HOPE recipients will have the cost of their Hollins tuition fully covered for four years through a blend of academic merit scholarship, need-based federal and institutional aid, and the Virginia Tuition Assistance Grant. HOPE scholars who choose to live on campus may apply federal loans to the cost of room and board. HOPE Scholars will be required to maintain satisfactory academic progress, file a FAFSA annually, and maintain Virginia residency.

• What is the deadline to apply for HOPE?

  

  Candidates wishing to receive consideration for HOPE funds should submit a completed application for admission and scholarship application by January 1. Submissions received after that date will be reviewed as funds are available.

• When will I be alerted if I receive HOPE?

  

  HOPE scholars who meet the January 1 preferred application deadline will be alerted of their scholarship status by February 15. Some candidates may be placed on a waiting list for funds depending on the competitiveness of the applicant pool and available funds.

• I have applied to Hollins and received an academic merit scholarship. Can I still apply for HOPE?

  

  Yes! Good for you for completing the college application early. It’s a relief, right? Even if you have already received an academic merit scholarship from Hollins, local students are encouraged to apply for HOPE by the January 1 preferred deadline. Applications received after that date will be considered as funding is available.

• My family makes more than the adjusted gross income of $50,000 that is referenced. Should I still apply?

  

  Yes! While families with a household AGI of $50,000 or less will receive priority, all local students are encouraged to apply. Did you know that 100% of first-year, full-time students admitted to Hollins are guaranteed $24,000 annually in academic merit scholarships? Or that Hollins awards over $29 million annually in scholarships and financial aid beyond the HOPE scholars program?
