Javeria Piracha ’25 has made a contribution to the growing study of the issue of Indigenous rights to heritage. The applied economics major has analyzed the interaction between Indigenous peoples and those owning their cultural property, and that research recently earned her a speaking opportunity at a prestigious academic conference.
Visiting Assistant Professor of Modern European History Julia Riegel, Visiting Assistant Professor of Gender & Women’s Studies Sandra Russell, and Visiting Assistant Professor in Global Politics and Societies Ashleigh Breske offered context and background on the war in Ukraine and explored the ideas of national and cultural identity that have persisted across centuries in that country as part of a teach-in on March 7.
In January 2022, Sajila Kanwal ’22 will begin an internship with Ipas, a nonprofit organization that promotes initiatives around the world to increase women’s ability to exercise their sexual and reproductive rights. She’s applying to graduate school public health programs and is “definitely looking forward to seeing what the future brings for me in terms of opportunities and options. I’m open to everything that interests me and see the best in each possibility.”
