In my classes at Hollins I strive to help students find their own voice in writing for children, and their own style in children’s illustration, giving them the tools they need to advance as both writers and artists. In addition to working on their craft, students research and study successful picture books and what makes that writer’s or illustrator’s work uniquely theirs. I have observed that total immersion for six weeks into the world of children’s book writing and illustrating greatly accelerates creative growth and fosters a close-knit community of aspiring authors and illustrators.
