Editor’s Note: Summer 2017 Issue

Looking back and going forward, with time to reflect during the summer, Hollins embraces its rich history and is excited about the future of the university.

At Reunion 2017 in June were graduates from the years ending in 2 and 7, the class of 2015, and other alumnae who celebrated Hollins’ 175th anniversary. Fun photos show you how much love there is for the university and classmates.

The Hollins connection though history and destiny is revealed by Beth JoJack ’98 in an interesting story about a house, an alumna, and a museum in Connected by History.”

Pareena Lawrence officially began as Hollins’ 12th president in July and she inspires us in her essay, A Global Force,” with her vision for the university to prepare women to be global citizens and lead lives of consequence. In “Listening, Observing, Adapting, and Problem Solving,” Jeff Hodges M.A.L.S. ’11, introduces us to President Lawrence’s personal and professional journey and reveals a portrait of a leader ready to serve.

Examples of students preparing to lead these lives of consequence are profiled in Beyond the Classroom by Jeff Hodges M.A.L.S. ’11.

And, serving Hollins with a connection to students’ careers is exactly what alumnae are doing as described in A Competitive Advantageby Sarah Achenbach ’88. More engaged and active in the lives of students than ever before, alumnae cultivate mentoring opportunities, career preparation programs, and robust internship offerings.

Finally, know that we are listening as we continue to improve your magazine.
