Yes, says Lucia Del Vecchio ’98 in her new play, Shangri-la. Set in a trailer park in Florida, the comedy is a realistic look at dating among the older set, and it’s based on some research Del Vecchio did on Match.com. Only thirty-five, the playwright (who earned an M.F.A. from the University of Texas at Austin) observed to Verve magazine (8/29/11) that the aging lovers “are just like us, only they’ve been around a lot longer. This play will give a perspective on what we have to look forward to.” Del Vecchio lives in Asheville, North Carolina, with her husband, Chall Gray, a director and producer who owns the bar/performance space, the Magnetic Field, in which Shangri-la was performed early last fall.
