John Sullivan will receive an engraved medal and a $1,000 cash prize for his debut children’s book, “Kitten and the Night Watchman,” illustrated by Taeeun Yoo and published by Simon & Schuster. The work is inspired by the true story of Sullivan, a City of Chicago buildings and equipment guard, and his encounter with a cat that would become his companion for 17 years.

The Hollins Tree Committee is celebrating Earth Day and National Arbor Day this month by giving away free tree seedlings to members of the campus community. The seedlings are available to any faculty member, staff member, or commuter student who has a place to plant a tree.

Hollins University has announced that Julie DeLoia, Ph.D. has been named dean of graduate studies at the university. Effective April 1, DeLoia will oversee established graduate programs and be responsible for developing new programs.
Sean Michael McCord, who is pursuing his M.F.A. in playwriting at Hollins, has received the Kennedy Center’s National Partners of the American Theatre Playwriting Award for his full-length play, “Moving.”
