Lawrence, who was inducted into the roster of university leaders on February 24 (<u><a href=\" https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/?p=8052\">\u201cToday. Tomorrow. <em>Together<\/em>.\u201d<\/a>)<\/u>. Those who couldn\u2019t be on campus can enjoy the day through photos and excerpts from the many welcoming speeches, including the passages from the keynote speech by Indra K. Nooyi, chair and chief executive officer of PepsiCo.<\/p>\n<p>In support of the theme of President Lawrence\u2019s inauguration, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/?p=8008\">\u201cLiving a Life of Consequences: Hollins Students Changing the World<\/a><\/u>,\u201d each academic division selected a student to be profiled who embodies the theme. You\u2019ll meet Alexus Smith \u201919, an English major who is a member of the Virginia Board for People with Disabilities; Lorato Sekwababe \u201919, a business major who wants to make her native country of Botswana \u201ca hub of business ethics\u201d; Natasha G. Bestrom \u201918, a biology major who came to Hollins as a Horizon student and discovered the joys of doing research on marine ecosystems; and Meera Chauhan \u201919, a studio art major whose work has already been chosen for a regional exhibition.<\/p>\n<p>The day before President Lawrence\u2019s inauguration, she participated in the dedication ceremony for the Dana Science Building, whose interior has been completely revamped, with new labs, offices, lobby, and study spaces. <u><a href=\" https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/?p=8024\">\u201cScience by Design\u201d<\/a><\/u> features photos from the dedication, along with text by three professors about how the renovations enhance the student and teaching experience.<\/p>\n<p>President Lawrence has been on the job since last July, and one of her immediate priorities has been to engage the campus audiences, including alumnae, in strategic planning for Hollins\u2019 future. In her <u><a href=\" https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/?p=7914\">essay<\/a><\/u>, she makes a clear case for the importance of planning. \u201cWe must think boldly and move bold thinking into action,\u201d she writes.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Jackson M.A. \u201914 writes a moving tribute, <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/?p=7922\">\u201cShow, don\u2019t tell,\u201d<\/a><\/u> to Amanda Cockrell \u201969, M.A. \u201988, who retires this year after having served for decades as the director of the children\u2019s literature graduate programs.<\/p>\n<p>In <u><a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/?p=8004\">\u201cBecoming Who You Were Meant to Be,\u201d<\/a><\/u> Jeff Hodges M.A.L.S. \u201911 writes about Karen Cardozo, who came to Hollins last year as the new executive director of career development, with years of experience helping students prepare for life after college.<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Achenbach \u201988 ends on a light note in <u><a href=\" https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/?p=7999\">\u201cRemembering Life Before the Commas,\u201d<\/a><\/u> as she anticipates feeling the years melt away when she sees her classmates for their 30th reunion.<\/p>\n<p>Jean Holzinger M.A.L.S. \u201911<br \/>\nGuest Editor<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Much of this issue celebrates the inauguration of Hollins\u2019 12th president, Pareena G.
