Alumnae surpassed that goal with a total of 320 referrals, compared to last year\u2019s total of 244 referrals. Sharing a name of a high school student with Hollins is critical for the strength of the classes of 2020, 2021, and beyond. Of the students who will enroll in the class of 2019:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>10 percent of class of 2019 were referred by alumnae<\/li>\n<li>50 percent of referred and admitted students enrolled<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4>RACE TO REUNION<\/h4>\n<p>Classes having reunions this year were invited to Race to Reunion, competing with each other to refer the most students. The prize for the winning class, 1985, was a Hollins beach towel for each classmate at reunion. The two standouts were Lisa Bower \u201905, M.F.A. \u201907, who referred 27 students, and Norm Ash \u201900, who referred 17.<\/p>\n<p>Final class standings:<br \/>\n1985 = 50<br \/>\n2005 = 39<br \/>\n2000 = 26<br \/>\n1990 = 13<br \/>\n1995 = 6<br \/>\n2013 = 4<br \/>\n1965 = 3<br \/>\n1960 = 2<br \/>\n1955 = 2<br \/>\n1950 and 1975 = 1<\/p>\n<h4>COMMONWEALTH CHALLENGE<\/h4>\n<p>As part of the overall alumnae referral challenge, we asked our Virginia alumnae chapters to band together and refer a total of 100 new high school students. But gifts of time and talent are equally beneficial\u2014and valued. The Hollins Ambassadors Circle was designed to honor the extraordinary and exemplary commitment given by alumnae\/i, parents, and friends.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-6291 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/1975leaders.jpg\" alt=\"1975 leaders\" width=\"350\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/1975leaders.jpg 350w, https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/08\/1975leaders-250x166.jpg 250w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 350px) 100vw, 350px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The volunteer recognition society acknowledges those who give their expertise to Hollins for the Alumnae Engagement Initiative through:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>connecting with alumnae and classmates<\/li>\n<li>career preparation and internships for students<\/li>\n<li>referring and recruiting prospective students<\/li>\n<li>encouraging others to support Hollins through philanthropic gifts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Ambassadors receive a ribbon to wear at reunion and are listed on our website, www.hollins.edu\/alumnae. Each month we highlight a volunteer who is a member of the Hollins Ambassadors Circle on the website and on social media.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Ambassador of the Month for June was not just one volunteer, but an entire team. The class of 1975 reunion team, Suzanne Hughes Detlefs, Cindy Hortman Meeker, Rena Henderson, and Cynthia Hale, spent a year building excitement among their classmates for their 40<sup>th<\/sup> reunion and class gift.
