Insulation is being blown into one of several holes drilled in the west wall (see photo showing the major heat-loss areas). According to Hollins energy manager Jesse Freedman, the project will garner $4,500 in annual energy savings and improve indoor air quality.<\/p>\n<p><b>\u00a0<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-4591 alignnone\" alt=\"divider\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/wave.png\" width=\"645\" height=\"26\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/wave.png 645w, https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/wave-250x10.png 250w, https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/wave-640x26.png 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 645px) 100vw, 645px\" \/><\/b><\/p>\n<h3><b>High drama<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><strong>Recent kudos for the undergraduate and graduate theatre programs<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The Princeton Review\u2019s 2014 college guide, <i>The Best 378 Colleges<\/i>, ranked Hollins 18th in the \u201cBest College Theater\u201d category.<\/li>\n<li>Robert Plowman, an M.F.A. student in the Playwright\u2019s Lab at Hollins, won the 2014 Charles M. Getchell New Play Award for his work <i>The Missing Link<\/i>. A Southeastern Theatre Conference (SETC) panel of readers who are prominent in the profession selected the play from 58 submissions. Plowman will receive a staged reading and critique at the SETC\u2019s annual convention.<\/li>\n<li>Hollins and Roanoke\u2019s Mill Mountain Theatre are hosting the Region IV Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival February 4-10, expected to bring more than 1,000 students, faculty, and theatre dignitaries to Roanoke to celebrate the best in college theatre throughout the Southeast.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-4591\" alt=\"divider\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/wave.png\" width=\"645\" height=\"26\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/wave.png 645w, https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/wave-250x10.png 250w, https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/02\/wave-640x26.png 640w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 645px) 100vw, 645px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><code><code>[metaslider id=4716]<\/code><\/code><\/p>\n<h3><b>\u201cFear has no place in your success equation\u201d<\/b><\/h3>\n<h4>Second annual C3 event emphasizes career preparation<\/h4>\n<p>Approximately 100 alumnae returned to campus to share tips, tools, and job-finding ideas with hundreds of current students during October\u2019s Career Connection Conference (C3).<\/p>\n<p>Keynote speaker Carla Harris of Morgan Stanley, appointed last fall by\u00a0President Obama\u00a0to serve\u00a0as chair of the National Women\u2019s Business Council, delivered a spirited kick-off address, energizing a capacity audience in the Hollins Theatre with the \u201cpearls of wisdom\u201d she has learned through more than two decades of working on Wall Street.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat are some of those things that really inform your success equation and make the difference between just surviving and thriving? That\u2019s what the pearls are all about,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n<p>Along with extolling the importance of mentors, sponsors, and advisors throughout one\u2019s career, Harris emphasized the following key messages to students:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\u201cPerception is the copilot to reality\u2014how people perceive you will directly affect how they deal with you.\u00a0What lens are they looking through when they\u2019re looking at you?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIf you are going to be a leader in the 21st century, you must be comfortable taking risks. Fear has no place in your success equation.\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\u201cIf you want to maximize your success, you must bring your best authentic self to the table.\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Following the keynote address, students and alumnae engaged in workshops and presentations on a wide range of topics, including internships, building an effective r\u00e9sum\u00e9, interviewing dos and don\u2019ts, using technology and networking, and workplace etiquette.
