The research projects showcase extensive and creative usage of the library\u2019s resources; the ability to synthesize those resources in completing the project; and growth in the student\u2019s research skills.<\/p>\n<p>The awards feature a cash prize of $300 for winners and $100 for finalists.<\/p>\n<p>The 2023 winners are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Hailee Brandt \u201925 in the First-Year\/Sophomore category for <em>The Forced Effeminization of Male Chinese Immigrants and the Consequences of This Process<\/em>, recommended by Ruth Alden Doan Assistant Professor of History Christopher Florio;<\/li>\n<li>Elizabeth Klein \u201923 in the Junior\/Senior category for <em>Jewish Pioneers in the Service of Christian Whiteness in the 19th-Century American West<\/em>, also recommended by Florio.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>This year\u2019s finalists include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ari Cogswell \u201926, Sylvia Guillet \u201926, and Alyssa Lawhorn \u201926 in the First-Year\/Sophomore category;<\/li>\n<li>Mars McLeod \u201923, Paramita Vadhahong Painter \u201923, and Caylin Wigger \u201923 in the Junior\/Senior category.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Undergraduate Research Awards are cosponsored by the library and the Office of Academic Affairs. This year\u2019s judges were Assistant Professor of Psychology Seung-Hee Han; Assistant Professor of Film Nathan Lee; Professor of Art Emerita Kathleen Nolan; Library Student Assistant Milo Ramirez Pacheco \u201925; Director of the Writing Center Brent Stevens; and University Librarian Luke Vilelle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>he annual Wyndham Robertson Library Undergraduate Research Awards spotlight exemplary student research projects completed in Hollins courses.
