She told the student newspaper that her first love is teaching students. \u201cI love my kids and they respond to me. It\u2019s just a nice way to spend the day going over music with them.\u201d One of Penick\u2019s former students won the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs.
