{"id":1041,"date":"2012-02-08T10:03:41","date_gmt":"2012-02-08T15:03:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/?p=1041"},"modified":"2012-02-08T09:42:46","modified_gmt":"2012-02-08T14:42:46","slug":"who-donated-the-andy-warhol","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/who-donated-the-andy-warhol\/","title":{"rendered":"Who donated the Andy Warhol?"},"content":{"rendered":"<h2>Hollins one of three area colleges to receive artist\u2019s works<\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/shriver_240.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-1045\" title=\"andywarhol1\" src=\"http:\/\/www.hollins.edu\/magazine\/wp-content\/uploads\/2012\/02\/shriver_240.jpg\" alt=\"Maria Shriver\" width=\"240\" height=\"160\" \/><\/a>The Andy Warhol Photographic Legacy Program has donated more than 28,500 of the artist\u2019s photographs to educational institutions across the country, including Hollins, Washington &amp; Lee University, and Roanoke College. The gift received by the Eleanor D. Wilson Museum includes many of Warhol\u2019s original Polaroids, as well as silver gelatin prints documenting his life.<br \/>\nAn exhibition of the donated works, <em>In the Event of Andy Warhol<\/em>, will travel from W&amp;L to Roanoke to Hollins, where it will be on display from May 31 until September 15. The exhibition focuses on the artist\u2019s contemporaries, inspirations, and original works, and it also showcases works by Roy Lichtenstein, Robert Rauschenberg, and Jasper Johns, among others.<br \/>\nWarhol is both famous and infamous for his work, which interweaves the worlds of fine art, pop culture, and consumerism. \u201cWarhol turned the camera on all the nuances of his life,\u201d said Wilson Museum Director Amy Moorefield. \u201cHe influenced generations of younger artists.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Photo of Maria Shriver<br \/>\nAndy Warhol, <em>Maria Shriver<\/em>, 1986.
