Ruth Sanderson The Twelve Dancing PrincessesProgram Chair

Ruth Sanderson
, author and illustrator, is a graduate of Paier College of Art. Among her many books for children are Goldilocks, The Enchanted Wood, The Twelve Dancing CinderellaPrincesses, Papa Gatto, The Night Before Christmas, The Snow Princess, Cinderella, and Saints: Lives and Illuminations. Her books have received a number of awards, including the Texas Bluebonnet Award for The GoldilocksGolden Mare, The Firebird, and The Magic Ring. In 1997 she was writer-in-residence for the Children's Literature program.

Elizabeth Dulemba Soap, soap, soapElizabeth O. Dulemba, B.F.A., University of Georgia. She is an award-winning author/illustrator of fifteen books including: The 12 Days of Christmas in Georgia; the bilingual Jack Tale adaptations Paco and the Giant Chile Plant and Soap, soap, soap; and one of the first children’s book apps, Lula’s Brew. She is the Illustrator Coordinator for the southern The 12 Days of Christmas in Georgiaregion (Georgia, Alabama, Mississippi) of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators and a Board Member for the Georgia Center for the Book. She teaches "Creating Picture Books" at various venues and taught Beginning and Advanced Illustration at the University of Georgia. Her Coloring Page Tuesdays have garnered over a million visits to Paco and the Green Giant Chile Planther website annually and over 3,000 subscribers to her weekly newsletter. She lives and works in Atlanta, Georgia. www.dulemba.com

Lauren Mills

ThumbelinaLauren Mills, M. A. in Illustration, San Jose State University. She has illustrated the children’s classics, At the Back of the North Wind, Anne of Green Gables and Thumbelina, and is also the author of several original tales including The Rag Coat, which has been performed as a ballet by the University of Utah and received the Charlotte Award, thirteen state award The Rag Coatnominations, and the Smithsonian’s "Season’s Choice" award. Fairy Wings, co-illustrated with Dennis Nolan, won the SCBWI Golden Kite Award. The New York Times described Mills' watercolors as "alluring... Whistlerian to the point of Pre-Raphaelitism." Her illustratiFairy Wingsons have been exhibited in galleries, libraries, and museums across the country and she has taught illustration at the Paier College of Art and the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts.

Wendy Watson

Bedtime BunniesWendy Watson, B.A. Bryn Mawr College. She has written and illustrated 21 children’s books and illustrated more than 60 children’s books for other authors. She has been nominated for the National Book Award and her works have been included in "Best Books of the Year" lists published by The New York Times, American Library Association, School Library Journal, and Publisher’s Weekly. Holly's Christmas EveWatson’s artwork has been exhibited widely in national and international shows. She was one of 106 artists represented in the exhibition and book, "Myth, Magic, and Mystery: One Hundred Years of American Children’s Book Illustration." Her artwork is part of numerous private and institutional collections. Watson is a member of the Author’s Guild and the Society of Children’s Book Writers The Cats in Krasinski Squareand Illustrators. She divides her time between Phoenix, Arizona and Truro, Massachusetts.

Ashley Wolff When Lucy Goes Out WalkingAshley Wolff, B.F.A., Rhode Island School of Design. She is the author and/or illustrator of over 50 children’s picture books including Baby Beluga, Stella and Roy Go Camping, Me Baby, CompostYou Baby, Who Took the Cookies from the Cookie Jar?, UnicycleMama’s Milk, and the beloved Miss Bindergarten series. Her artwork has been exhibited widely in national shows and her books have won numerous state and national awards. She lives and works in San Francisco.

Amanda Cockrell

Program Director

What We Keep Is Not Always What Will StayAmanda Cockrell is a graduate of Hollins, where she also earned her M.A. in English and creative writing. In addition to directing the children’s literature program, she is the author of the young adult novel What We Keep Is Not Always What Will Stay, as well as The Legions of the Mist, The Moonshine Blade, The Deer Dancers trilogy, The Horse Catchers trilogy and Pomegranate Seed, and received a National Endowment for the Arts fellowship in fiction.
