This is the perfect event to learn\, grow\, and connect with other writers in the area. RRWC24 takes place on January 19-20\, 2024\, at Hollins University in Roanoke. The snow date is January 26-27. The cost of the conference is $75 including lunch in the dining hall on Saturday.\n\nWe are so lucky to live in an area with incredible writers of all experiences\, genres\, and backgrounds.  RRWC24 is the ideal place to learn\, grow\, and experience the excitement that comes with your love of writing. It’s time to make your writing dreams a reality\, and we’re all here to help each other out!\n\nThe conference begins on Friday night at 7 p.m. with introductions\, our scholarship presentation\, and what I know will be an incredible keynote from premier guest Lee Hunsaker of “Hoot and Holler” fame. Saturday registration opens at 8:30 a.m.\, with classes starting at 9 a.m. Hunsaker will kick off the morning with a 2-hour workshop that will make your writer hearts sing! You’ll notice a variety of tracks during each hour throughout the day; it’s a good idea to have a backup class in mind should your first choice get filled before you can find a seat. Make sure to bring pen and paper or laptop\, as well as any writing samples you might want to share in particular classes. Our presenters can’t wait to share knowledge and advice\, and there’s no doubt you’ll leave the weekend buzzing with inspiration\, motivation and new friendships!\n\nClass topics vary from fiction and nonfiction\, journalism\, editing\, publishing (traditional and self-publishing)\, poetry\, and more. In addition\, we’re proud to promote our writing community. I highly encourage our writers to connect with others! Writing is a yearlong process and we’d love for you to join our Facebook group to promote discussion\, share in successes\, and more. We look forward to sharing our processes\, learning from each other\, and strengthening our friendships with such talented\, hardworking writers!

SUMMARY:"Simetría-Dos"
DESCRIPTION:Simetría-Dos is a digital humanities project developed by sisters Patricia and Claudia Bernardi. Patricia\, a forensic anthropologist\, works as a member of the Argentine Forensic Anthropology Team\, EAAF\, investigating violations of human rights committed against civilians in Argentina and beyond. Claudia is an artist who works with survivors of political violence. The project evinces how the threads of their stories entwine along a timeline in a peculiar symmetry of circumstance and chance. The presentation will focus on the evolution of the project\, the importance of telling survivors’ stories\, and the collaborative translation project between Claudia Bernardi and Alison Ridley to make the Simetría-Dos bilingual to reach a broader audience.\n\n

SUMMARY:“The Fragile Elegance of Truth: The Trials Against Genocides in Argentina”
DESCRIPTION:The military dictatorship that ruled Argentina from 1976 to 1983 left the country with evidence of more than 30\,000 disappeared citizens. In 1985\, Julio César Strassera was chosen as public prosecutor to make the new democratic government’s case against the military junta for alleged crimes against humanity. Claudia Bernardi’s presentation\, using Argentina\, 1985 as a backdrop\, will focus on the effort to create a judicial paradigm of due process to investigate genocide; collect and present testimonies of the survivors of clandestine centers of detention\, torture\, and extermination; document facts about the disappeared; and try and convict the members of the military junta within a structure of constitutional law in Argentina.\n\nClaudia Bernardi is a community-based artist\, printmaker\, and installation artist whose artwork meets at the intersection of art and human rights and is impacted by the effect of war and political violence. She is an emerita professor of community arts at the California College of the Arts.
