SUMMARY:Artist-in-Residence Lecture with Ying Li
DESCRIPTION:2024 Frances Niederer Artist-in-Residence Ying Li: “Blossoms in a Sudden Strangeness III” exhibition through April 14\, 2024\n\nYing Li is known for her thickly painted\, abstract plein air paintings created in beautiful outdoor gardens\, landscapes\, and urbanscape settings around the world and across the United States. She has taught at Haverford College since 1997 and is currently the Phlyssa Koshland Professor of Fine Arts. In March of 2020\, the busyness of our human lives began to grind to a halt\, with classes\, exhibits\, and concerts canceled. Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic\, Li created these colorful paintings while living on the Haverford campus.\n\nThe Frances Niederer Artist-in-Residence program allows Hollins to bring a nationally recognized artist to campus every year. In residence during the spring semester\, the artist-in-residence creates work in a campus studio and teaches a seminar open to all students.\n\nMuseum hours: Tuesday – Saturday 12-5 pm\, Thursday 12-8 pm (closed Mondays)

DESCRIPTION:CUBA: Beyond Mambo and Rock ‘n Roll\n\nArtist talk with reception to follow.\n\nSeptember 14 – December 10\, 2023\n\nSince the embargo\, Cubans have used their creativity\, imagination\, and ingenuity in daily life. This attitude and quest for freedom for themselves and their country is apparent in each of the artists’ works whether they examine human rights\, fantastical inventions\, or philosophical concerns. The exhibit will present drawings\, paintings\, and sculpture by Esterio Segura Mora\, Ernesto J. Garcia Nodarse\, and Ernesto R. Figueroa Pérez. Also on view is Arte Templo by artists Isabel María Arche Martínez and Ramón Modesto Díaz Martín.\n\nCUBA: Beyond Mambo and Rock ’n Roll has been organized by Joseph Scarpaci\, Ph.D. (professor emeritus\, Virginia Tech\, and director of the Center for the Study of Cuban Culture and Economy) who organizes cultural and birdwatching trips to Cuba\, and has traveled extensively in that country since 1991.\n\nThis exhibition and its related programs are sponsored in part by the City of Roanoke through the Roanoke Arts Commission.\n\nHours are Tuesday-Sunday\, 12-5 pm; Thursday\, 12-8 pm

While I love learning\, I also want to help others reach their goals to find their creative voice.” This exhibition and its related programs are sponsored in part by the City of Roanoke through the Roanoke Arts Commission.\n\nHours are Tuesday-Sunday\, 12-5 pm; Thursday\, 12-8 pm
