I am a medieval historian specializing in Iberia and North Africa. I’m most interested in how people from different religious, linguistic, and ethnocultural backgrounds interacted with one another. I teach a variety of medieval and premodern courses focusing mostly on connectivity between Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East.

Research Interests

  • My current book project, Resurrecting Iberia and North Africa in Medieval Muslim and Christian Chronicles, examines Arabic, Latin, and Spanish historical chronicles from the 8th through the 14th centuries. I explore the extent to which writers across the Strait of Gibraltar viewed their history as a shared one and wrote within a common historical framework, borrowing from and engaging with each other’s work.
