Campus Visitors & Leaving Campus

Are campus visitors permitted?
ONLY Hollins students and approved faculty and staff are permitted within any building on the Hollins campus in the fall. This means no outside visitors or guests may enter campus facilities (with the exception of new students being permitted one additional person each to assist them in moving in). This restriction includes, but is not limited to, the dining areas of Moody, the athletic complex, the library, the museum, and all residential spaces.

Students are permitted to have visitors to campus in limited numbers, but their presence must be limited to outdoor spaces, and following our Culture of Care protocols, including face masks and physical distancing, are required.

Only essential vendors and partners will be allowed in buildings for a pre-arranged visit and will have to complete a health screening questionnaire and follow proper physical distancing and face covering protocols.

Prospective students may preschedule a visit by contacting the Hollins admission office. The Hollins admission office will inform any visitors about the campus physical distancing protocols, requirements for protective face masks when on campus, visitor health screening questionnaire, and any other required institutional public health measures to visit campus.

The general public will not be allowed to access the main part of campus or any campus buildings but will be able to walk the loop road around campus following proper physical distancing and face mask protocols. The general public will not be allowed to attend any events that may be held on campus.

What about events, such as athletic contests, performances, guest speakers, etc.?
Until further notice, events and traditionally public spaces such as the library and museum are closed to all outside visitors, including alumnae/i and retired faculty and staff. All performances held on campus will be exclusively for the Hollins campus community of current students, faculty, and staff. All guest speakers in the fall are expected to be engaged remotely (e.g. via videoconferencing).

The campus loop will remain open to visitors, but signs will indicate they are expected to remain exclusively on the main roads of the loop, with face masks on and honoring physical distancing expectations.

What about access to athletic facilities?
The athletic building, including the weight room and fitness center, will be accessible only to students and authorized staff. The pool will be available only for members of the swim team and the swimming class. Until further notice, faculty, staff (active and retired), alumnae/i, and all others are asked not to enter these spaces in the fall unless the nature of their work requires their presence there.

Given the restricted nature of  residential arrangements for students, we must prioritize student access to the amenities our campus offers, inasmuch as the current environment allows. Therefore, we must respectfully restrict others from using these spaces for the time being.

Are students permitted to leave campus?
Nonessential travel away from campus, even into the Roanoke Valley area, is highly discouraged. Those who travel away from Hollins and the Roanoke Valley at any time during the fall or spring terms may be subject to quarantine upon return, depending on the recommendations of the VDH, the CDC, or health conditions upon return. In supporting our Culture of Care, if a student travels, please ensure you are practicing physical distancing, wearing a face mask, and washing your hands often for 20 seconds.
