Recent Accomplishments

Some recent achievements by current students and graduates of our programs:

Nicole Panteleakos‘s (M.F.A.) debut book, Planet Earth Is Blue, comes out in 2019, the first of two middle-grade novels under contract with Wendy Lamb at Random House.

New picture book by M.F.A. student Caroline McAlister about J.R.R. Tolkien, John Ronald’s Dragons.

Amanda Panda Quits Kindergarten, new picture book by M.A. graduate and summer faculty member Candice Ransom.

New picture book by M.F.A. student Donna Patterson, Midnight Forest. Written and illustrated with large text and illustrations that can be read by the partially sighted.

Ali Standish M.F.A. ’15 published her debut novel, The Ethan I Was Before, in January with many starred reviews. It is a Junior Library Guild selection.

Nancy Wright Beasley‘s (M.F.A. ’11) YA Holocaust novel, The Little Lion, had a theatrical-staged reading at Mill Mountain in September.

Jen McConnel M.F.A. ’17 is beginning doctoral studies in education at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

Dawn Sardella-Ayres M.A. ’09 just completed her doctorate at Cambridge University, UK.

The debut novel by Victoria Piontek M.F.A. ’14, The Spirit of Cattail County, was just acquired by Scholastic for publication next year. Victoria is a literary associate for Executive Agent Laura Rennert at the Andrea Brown Literary Agency.

Jennifer Taylor M.A. ’12 has been accepted by the Warburg Institute School of Advanced Study of the University of London, where she will study the relationship between Charles Perrault’s fairy tales and the Baroque painting in the court of Louis XIV.
