James Patrick Downey James Patrick Downey, associate professor, was born in Waynesboro, Virginia, and took his Ph.D. from the University of Virginia, where his dissertation defended rationalist theistic metaphysics. His interests include metaphysics, contemporary moral issues, philosophy of religion, and logic.
Michael Gettings Michael Gettings, associate professor, is originally from Alexandria, Virginia, and received a B.A. from William and Mary and an M.A. and Ph.D. from the University of California-Santa Barbara. His dissertation was on the ontology of fiction; his other interests include modal logic, modal metaphysics, and the philosophy of language.
Madaline F. "Dick" Spickard Madaline F. "Dick" Spickard, Division I secretary, was the 1995 recipient of the Roberta A. Stewart Service Award, given each year to a deserving staff member. The philosophy department says, "She's the greatest secretary in the world."
