Hollins
maintains connections and professional alliances with four institutions
of higher learning in Athens and Rome. Both majors and minors are
encouraged to participate in the overseas programs of College Year
in Athens or the Intercollegiate Center in Rome during their junior
year or in the summer programs of the American School of Classical
Studies in Athens (ASCS) and the American Academy in Rome (AAR).

College Year in Athens is an independent study abroad program in Greece that offers university-level courses, conducted in English, which take advantage of the resources of Athens and of Greece at large, and invites students to expand their knowledge and understanding of Greece's fundamental contribution to the development of Western civilization. The courses cover ancient times to the present, in the areas of Ancient Greek Civilization and East Mediterranean Area Studies, and represent the disciplines of Archaeology, Art History, Classical Languages, Cultural Anthropology
, Greek Literature in Translation, History, Modern Greek Language, Philosophy, Political Science, and Religious Studies. Hollins students may participate in the program for a semester or a year and receive credit towards a major in Classical Studies and general college elective requirements.
American School of Classical Studies

The ASCSA is a graduate institution at which Hollins professors
may expand and develop their research on the ancient world. It
is possible for undergraduates to participate in the archaeological
investigations and summer excavations that the School sponsors.
Intercollegiate Center for Classical
Studies (ICCS)

Hollins is a member institution of the ICCS, which a
llows students
an opportunity in Rome to study ancient history and archaeology,
Greek and Latin literature, and ancient art. A major part of the
academic work is a required comprehensive and integrated course
called The Ancient City, which covers Roman archaeology and topography,
aspects of social and urban history of Rome, and Roman civilization.
Frequent site visits and explorations, intensive museum tours
and lectures are also a part of the program. Hollins students
can participate for a semester or a year and apply their work
in Rome for credit towards a major in classical studies or general
university requirements.
American Academy in Rome (AAR)

The AAR is a graduate institution that fosters the research interests
of classical scholars and the creative energies of musicians,
artists, and writers who require a stay in Rome. Advanced undergraduates
may participate in the summer session, which is an introduction
to Roman and Campanian art and archaeology. Additionally there
are opportunities in the archaeological fieldwork sponsored by
the Academy
