Hollins University will be offering three basketball camps in summer 2013.

This camp is an opportunity for AAU and high school girls’ basketball teams to enjoy three days of intense competition. Our purpose is to provide teams the chance to improve team skills and performance in game situations. All teams in attendance will be guaranteed six games, and every effort will be made to schedule competitive games. Coaches must coordinate admission to the Hollins Team Camp. Campers should not apply as individuals. Teams who plan to commute to and from Hollins are responsible for arranging their own meals.

  • Gymnasium, in the Hollins Athletic Complex

How much does it cost?

  • Commuters $180 per team
  • Overnight campers $180 per team
  • Plus $90 per camper (covers lodging in Hollins dormitory and meals in Hollins' dining hall).

Camp directors

Head basketball coach Jim Phillips joined the Hollins coaching staff for his first full season in 2008-09 as an assistant and began his first season as head coach in 2010-11. That year, Phillips' squad set the best record for Hollins since the 2002-03 season. Phillips is a graduate of Fairmont State College with a B.A. in education. He has been an educator and coach for over 20 years in the public school system. For the last 15 years, Phillips has been a member of the Botetourt County community, where he has organized and coached several teams to success through high school, middle school, and AAU basketball.

Assistant basketball coach Nicci Moats joined the Hollins athletic department in August 2012. She is a recent graduate of Roanoke College with a B.S in health and exercise science and was a three-year letter winner for the women’s basketball team and played for the women’s volleyball team. Though this is her first time coaching at the college level, Moats served as the junior varsity head coach for Roanoke Catholic School. She is also a member of the Botetourt community, where she has played, coached, and assisted with local camps to develop and encourage female basketball players in the area.

Coach Phillips is also joined on staff by assistant basketball coach Wes Blessard.
