| Student Success Leaders |
Each of these leaders will be connected to one of the First-year Seminars. Once you have been assigned your seminar over the summer, your SSL will be in touch with you to discuss how to build your schedule for the fall and to answer any questions you have about academics at Hollins.

My name is Lauren Bakst, Class of 2011, and I am a double major in Dance and Women's Studies. Since coming to Hollins from Sarasota, Florida, I have been extremely involved with the Hollins Repertory Dance Company. I also live on H.O.P. (Hollins Outdoor Program) Hall with a group of fabulous ladies who I love. I love seeing, making, and talking about art, so I am very excited about participating in Jeffery and Donna Faye's seminar. I'm a big fan of spontaneous dance parties, feminism, strong coffee, and road trips to the ocean. |
 |
My name is Noren Bonner, and I am a History and English double major with a fondness for resistance movements, oral histories, and prose poetry. I am one of those people who has always just lost her keys. My time at Hollins has flown by, and I am very excited to be entering my senior year, when I'll be participating in the QEP class "Creative Code." In my spare time, I read web-comics and Feminist blogs, write silly haiku for my friends, and make my own butter. |

Hey! I'm Jennifer Brennan. I'm a member of the wonderful class of 2011, and I'm planning to major in International Studies with a double minor in Political Science and Music. I was born and raised in Fremont, which is a city in the San Francisco Bay Area. I'm a musician, having played the flute for ten years, the oboe for seven, and the saxaphone for five. At Hollins, I play in the Chamber Orchestra as the only oboist, and I'm also on the swim and lacrosse teams. I really love to volunteer, and I hope to continue doing so throughout my life. Some things that you would probably never guess about me is that I love vintage music (punk, etc) and I adore muscle cars! |

My name is Karla Brown, and I am a Biology major and Chemistry minor. I hope to go to medical school or do research in cancer genetics. Roanoke is actually my hometown, so I can tell you where all of the cool little shops and restaurants are. I always have a cup of coffee in my hand and a smile on my face, although the latter depends upon the first! I love to learn, and I am so excited that I have the opportunity to help other young women discover their potential in such a nurturing environment. My two passions are the sciences and French. Something most people don't know about me is that I've spent a great deal of time in France, and I am (nearly) fluent in the language. |

Hi everyone! My name is Tiffany Anne Brown, and I am from Radford, Virginia. I am a Communication Studies major and Political Science minor in the class of 2010. In my time at Hollins, I've enjoyed being an Admissions Ambassador, West 2 Senator, Orientation Team leader, and member of Shine Bible Study. On a personal note, my day is not complete without caffeine, the New York Times, Perezhilton.com, and my Blackberry. |

My name is Courtney Chenette ('09) and I'm a Women's Studies major and Political Science minor, focusing on pre-law, from Midlothian, Virginia. I'm bringing my passion for activism, organization, thrift stores, and literature to the class "Women, Health, and Power." I co-founded a chapter of the Feminist Majority Leadership Alliance at Hollins and am the current president. Being an editor for The Album, Coalition Against Sexual Assault peer counselor, and Planned Parenthood community volunteer keeps me busy during the school year. I'm looking forward to introducing incoming first year's to the fabulous daily feminisms of the Hollins University community.

Hi, my name is Emily Elliott! I am a 21-year-old junior (Class of 2010), and this is my second year as a Student Success Leader for the Women & Technology Horizon seminar. Born and raised in Texas, I now live in the Roanoke area and spend my summers as a camp counselor in North Carolina. I recently declared as an English major with an emphasis in Creative Writing and a Film/Photography minor. I'm a Batten Scholar, a member of the Hollins Activity Board and a Hollinsblogger. I also work as a student assistant in the office of the Vice President of Academic Affairs. My favorite thing about Hollins is definitely the people! I've made so many amazing friends in the past two years! |

My name is Laura Fails. I was raised in Virginia with a love for the outdoors. Some of my favorite pastime activities are my motorcycle and dirt bikes, as well as photography. Wherever I travel, my camera goes with me. I am currently a rising senior with a double major in International Studies and Environmental Science with an advising track in pre-med. I look forward to meeting and working with everyone this upcoming semester! |

Olá! My name is Keisha Graziadei and I’m a double major in Spanish and communication studies (class of '09). Half my family is from Brazil, and I have a passion for Latin American culture. Through Hollins’ study abroad program, I visited my relatives in Brazil for the very first time while working on an independent study on Brazilian telenovelas, followed by an amazing semester in Argentina perfecting my Spanish and soaking up the culture. Though born and raised in Sacramento, California, life brought me to the East Coast through my (sometimes troublesome) thirst for adventure. I love people (a lot), meaningful conversations, playing piano, songwriting, reading, hip hop dancing, eating Cinnabons, sipping (or chugging) mochas and having FUN!! You’d be likely to catch me staring at the sky or at a flower.

My name is Brynn Hoffman, and I am a part of the Hollins class of 2009. I am a history major with an art history minor and am currently pondering my life after Hollins. I grew up in Littleton, Colorado, and still find myself missing the mountains and my family, especially my twin brother and older sister. At Hollins, I am a part of the Batten Leadership Institute and co-president of the riding club. My favorite thing about Hollins is definitely the riding program and all of the wonderful Hollins horses! |
 |
My name is Lianne Jackson, and I'm in the class of 2011. I'm from Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and I'm planning to major in creative writing. My other interests include improv, theatre, classic movies, sad movies, movies in general, Robert Frost, and piano. I'm going to be a tutor in the Writing Center next year, and I am quite excited! Fun facts: my favorite bands are Third Eye Blind and the Beatles, and when I was little, I used to be afraid of the magazine aisle in the grocery store. |

Hey, I'm Taylor Marun, a proud member of the Class of '09. I'm a theatre major hailing from the great island, Long Island, New York. Here at Hollins, I'm involved with everything theatre related. I am the current president of Alpha Psi Omega and a member of Hollins Players. I have a particular interest in stage management but am willing to do pretty much anything for a show. This is my third year as a SSL. I have also spent a semester abroad in the fabulous city of London with the Hollins Abroad program. I'm a huge sports fan. When I am not living in the Theatre, I enjoy watching baseball and football. I'm an avid supporter of the New York Mets and New York Jets. Interesting fact, I was almost named after Mookie Wilson, a Met from the 1986 World Series team. |

My name is Kelcy Leigh Mueller; I am a member of the Hollins Class of 2010. I come from New Braunfels, a small town full of German history located in the beautiful Texas hill country. I am excited about majoring in Economics with a minor in Math. This past year, I enjoyed being an Admissions Ambassador, and I look forward to increasing my campus involvement through the Quality Enhancement Program, the Batten Leadership Institute, and as a Quantitative Reasoning tutor. Although I can usually be found feeding my coffee addiction, I also enjoy NPR, baby ducks, and movie trailers.

I am Marina Stanojevic, and I am an international student from Bosnia (Class of 2010), majoring in mathematics and international business. I came to Hollins University two years ago, and I have to say that I enjoyed every minute that I spent here so far. My family is still back in Bosnia, and I am usually homesick. I love animals and the environment, and I'm always up for fun, but of course, serious work comes first. I am an "open person," and I love helping other students on campus. I do not live on campus, but I spend at least 12 - 14 hours here every day, so I am easy to be caught in Dana Science Building.

Hi, my name is Andria Tran. I am a rising senior who will graduate in 2009 with a major in English and a concentration in Creative Writing. Born and raised in the Roanoke Valley, I spend as much time as I can horseback riding, hanging out with old friends, and driving my three huge dogs (two huskies and a lab) all over town. When I am at Hollins, I am usually writing, reading occasional romance novels, visiting the horses at the barn, or fencing whenever I have time. My all-time favorite food is pumpkin pie. |
 |
My name is Meg Umberger. I originally hail from Wytheville, VA. This year I am a rising senior and both extremely excited and nervous! I am a studio art/photography major, but some of my other interests are travel, web design, graphic art, event planning, and babysitting. I came to Hollins because I really liked the small atmosphere and the personal relationships you develop with the faculty and staff. |

Hi, I am Caroline Walz, a member of the Class of 2010. I hail from Richmond, Virginia. I am majoring in biology with a minor in international studies. At Hollins, I am involved in the Students for Environmental Action and Community Garden clubs and am a Quantitative Reasoning tutor. One thing you might not know about me is I love talking about animals, be it learning random facts or swapping funny animal stories. |
