Housing and Residence Life

Congratulations on being a new Hollins University student!  You are about to start one of the most exciting adventures of your life. The HRL staff is eager to help you make this one of the most enjoyable experiences possible.  It is our hope that your residential experience will be a positive one. This is accomplished through our staff of residential learning coordinators, graduate assistants, and resident assistants.  Your resident assistant (RA) is an undergraduate student staff member trained to assist in all residence hall matters. They provide hall activities, peer counseling, mediation, and work with professional staff members on call for emergency situations. It will be important for you to get to know your RA as she will be a valuable resource.

Below you will find three fundamental questions you may already be asking yourself. Once you have read these, please refer to the Frequently Asked Questions link in the right-side menu of this page for more important information about housing at Hollins University.

  1. Who lives on campus?  Hollins University has been a residential campus since its inception, and as such all traditional undergraduate students (including transfer students) are required to live on campus. Adult Horizon students may elect to live on campus by going through the same process as traditional undergraduate students for room assignments. Upon acceptance to Hollins, all new residential students must fill out the New Student Housing Information Form, which is accessible through the link on the right side of this page.
  2. Where do I live on campus?  First-year students at Hollins University live in double rooms (with roommates) in Tinker and Randolph.  Transfer students live in double (with roommates) or single rooms in Tinker and Randolph. Adult Horizon students live in the apartments. Residence Hall descriptions can be found through the Residence Halls link to the right.
  3. How do I find a roommate?  The Director of HRL uses information submitted by students on the New Student Housing Information Form to match roommates based on compatibility of responses.  It is in your best interest that you take your time and be honest with your responses.

We look forward to your arrival on Thursday, August 27, 2009.  If you have any questions, they may be directed to: Nickie Smith, director of housing and residence life, csmith3@hollins.edu, or (540) 362-6281.
