Longest-serving chaplain moves on

Jan FullerThe Rev. Dr. Jan Fuller ’78, who has served as university chaplain since 1987, has accepted a new position as chaplain at Elon University in Burlington, North Carolina. She joins Elon in September and will oversee the expansion of religious diversity and the construction of a new multifaith center.

After graduating from Hollins, Fuller went on to Yale Divinity School and Wesley Theological Seminary. She is the longest-serving chaplain in Hollins’ history. Over the years, she has touched the lives of students, faculty, and staff with her kindness and counsel. During difficult times the campus community benefited from her strength and compassion: the terrorist attacks on 9/11, the death of President Nora Kizer Bell in 2004, and the death of Shalynda Toney ’10 in 2009.

Fuller was one of nine women recognized with the 2010 YWCA Women of Achievement Award. The award recognizes women of the Roanoke Valley who have made significant contributions to the community.
