Amanda Ward Penick ’52 honored for service

University of Alabama music professor Amanda Ward Penick ’52 was lauded as the “longest-serving person on campus” (The Crimson White, 10/4/11), having taught there since 1953, after receiving her master’s degree from the university. She told the student newspaper that her first love is teaching students. “I love my kids and they respond to me. It’s just a nice way to spend the day going over music with them.” One of Penick’s former students won the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition for Outstanding Amateurs. Perhaps her second love is Alabama football. “I’m a big football fan,” she said, “and a big fan of the Million Dollar Band”—the marching band for the Crimson Tide.
