Library Instruction for a Class

Working with the faculty, the library provides course-integrated research activities for students, including:
  • Class sessions
  • Individual and small-group meetings
  • Active research assignments and logs
  • Online course sites
  • Printed research guides

Reserves

The library will place books or films on Reserve for your classes; articles should be scanned and made available via Blackboard. In-Library use only designation is available for personal copies. Please turn your materials in early enough to allow time for processing, and include a course syllabus with your first request.

  • Inter-Library Loan, Delivery and Pickup Services
  • Request Materials for Purchase

Borrowing Materials

Your library card # is your Hollins ID barcode. The checkout period for faculty is four months. Courtesy notices for renewals and late materials are sent to you via email; you will also receive a list of materials checked out to you twice each semester.

Note: Emeriti faculty have access to all library materials including databases.

Inter-Library Loan and FLEX On-Campus Delivery/Pickup

The library offers on-campus delivery of our materials (books, films and articles) to faculty offices within 2 business days; pickup service is available as well.

Items not available at Hollins or Roanoke College can be requested via Inter-Library Loan.

Note: materials requested from the Roanoke College library via our online library catalog will automatically be delivered to your office.

Request Materials for Purchase

Your Liaison Librarian can assist you in identifying titles in a specific research area; he or she can also provide you with regular updates about new publications in your field.

To ensure that you are using the full access and functionality of our subscription databases, always access them via the Library web page, whether you are working on- or off-campus. You will be required to enter your Hollins University ID barcode number to verify that you are a Hollins University library user.

LibX Hollins Toolbar

The LibX Hollins Toolbar is a browser extension for Firefox that provides direct access to your library’s resources while you are browsing online. Use just select-right click to search titles of interest in the library’s catalog, Journalfinder or Google Scholar! For more information, contact IT Librarian Erin Gordon at 362-6653 or egordon@hollins.edu.

Scanning and Photocopying

To scan from the multifunction machines on the library’s first and second floors, use your Hollins ID. To charge photocopies to your departmental account, please request a bypass key at the circulation desk, and use the photocopier on the library’s first floor.
