Technical Services and Metadata Librarian

Wyndham Robertson Library at Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Technical Services and Metadata Librarian.

Reporting to the University Librarian, the Technical Services and Metadata Librarian provides leadership for acquisition and bibliographic control and/or metadata of materials in all formats. The librarian:

  1. creates original metadata records for the catalog and digital collections for materials including, but not limited to, monographs, papers, zines, government documents, images, and media;
  2. plans and conducts library cataloging and acquisitions operations, including the creation of policies and training to expedite copy cataloging and processing of materials;
  3. administers the library's digital content initiatives, while establishing and managing local metadata standards and authorities for these repositories;
  4. engages with the campus community through reference provision, digital content development collaborations, and other service as appropriate;
  5. and supervises the equivalent of one FTE staff member and one student assistant.

The successful candidate must:

  1. have an ALA-accredited MLIS/MLS or related master's degree;
  2. have a demonstrated knowledge of cataloging rules, metadata schemas, standards, tools, and their application, such as RDA, AACR2r, LCSH, LCC, MARC21, VRA Core, and Dublin Core;
  3. have excellent communication and organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple concurrent tasks;
  4. be a motivated self-starter who possesses a high level of flexibility and creativity and an eagerness to participate fully in the daily life of a small, liberal arts university community;
  5. and show commitment to professional development and providing cross-functional library services.

Working knowledge of an integrated library system and/or digital repository is preferred, as is experience with principles of authority control, including selecting and applying controlled vocabularies.
