The Wyndham Robertson Library at Hollins University is seeking qualified candidates for a part-time reference assistant position beginning September 2013. The reference assistant will be responsible for working night and weekend hours, approximately 9-15 hours each week. Shifts for the fall will likely include Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday nights, from 9 p.m. to midnight, though there may be some flexibility, and additional hours may also be available.
Working at the library reference desk, the reference assistant will provide patrons with high-quality service and referrals in response to research, technological, and directional queries. The assistant will provide the necessary oversight of library student assistants to ensure that the library's operations run smoothly, and will help close the library at night. The assistant will also be cross-trained to assist with ongoing library projects, and provide support as needed for other public service functions of the library, particularly circulation.
The successful applicant must have a high school diploma or equivalent; customer service experience; excellent Microsoft Office, communication, interpersonal, organizational, and research skills; attention to detail; strong commitment to public service; and abilities to prioritize tasks and work independently. A college degree and work experience in a library are preferred, as is familiarity with the Wyndham Robertson Library and Hollins University campus.
