Steps to Applying for Financial Aid
At Hollins University, were dedicated to making
graduate education a reality for a diverse and well-qualified
group of students. We have developed a strong financial
assistance program, combining merit and need-based
scholarships, grants, loans, campus jobs, and special
financing plans.
The following are eight steps to help make applying for financial assistance
easier and more understandable.
Before You Begin. . .
We strongly encourage all applicants to make a personal, confidential appointment
with Hollins Office of Scholarships and Financial Assistance prior to starting
the process. Our friendly, knowledgeable staff can provide you with the latest
information on available financial assistance, useful tips on completing forms
and meeting deadlines, and answers to any questions you may have. Based on your
personal circumstances, we can give you a general idea of how much financial
assistance you can expect and whether the aid will come in the form of loans,
grants or scholarships.
Step 1
Complete your federal tax return
- Some of the exact same questions asked on your
tax return will be asked again when you complete
Step 2.
Step 2
Complete the Free Application
For Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
- Send FAFSA by mail or online to the Department
of Education.
- We strongly recommend that you make an appointment
with our office approximately 2-3 weeks after you
complete your FAFSA.
Step 3
Complete the Hollins
University graduate financial aid application
- Be sure to make a copy for your records.
Step 4
Complete the Tuition
Assistant Grant (TAG) application
The TAG application should be completed only if you are a Virginia resident and
you anticipate being a full-time student for any part of the upcoming academic
year.
- All TAG applications should be completed and mailed to the address noted
by July 31.
- Include a photocopy of your Virginia state tax return.
Step 5
Send to Hollins the following:
- Photocopies of your state and federal income tax returns
- Hollins University Graduate Financial Aid Application (original copy)
- A photocopy of your completed FAFSA
- A photocopy of your TAG application (Virginia residents only)
Step 6
Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (M.A.L.S.)
students:
- Complete the scholarship application and mail it to the Office of Scholarships
and Financial Assistance by August 1
Step 7
You are notified of your award amount
- Please sign and return the award form and/or make an appointment with our
office if you have any questions or concerns
Step 8
Complete your loan paperwork and/or refund
request forms (if necessary)
Remember. . .
You must be registered for classes at Hollins before you can receive any financial
assistance award letter.
