Alumnae/i Services

Career and Vocational Assessment

Self-understanding is the foundation of good career decisions. The Career Center offers two online assessment inventories that provide self-knowledge for personal and career growth. There is a $25.00 administration fee for each inventory. Results are sent to the Career Center and a personal or telephone review is recommended.

  • Newly Revised Strong Interest and Skills Confidence Inventory explores the relationship between interests, skills, and career/educational planning. The Strong customizes information on personal styles in work, learning, leadership and risk taking, and provides steps an alumna can take to identify and evaluate career and educational options.

  • Myers-Briggs Type Indicator: explores the diverse ways that people prefer to direct their attention, process information, make decisions, and adopt varied life/work styles.

Career Advising and Counseling

Professional staff will meet individually with alumnae/i, by phone or in person, regarding any issue related to career planning or a job search.  All conferences are confidential and free of charge.

Career Assistance Network

The Career Advising Network is a list of Hollins alumnae, and sometimes friends and parents, who are willing to speak with alumnae/i about their career planning issues, answer questions about their own professional development and the  job market in their particular cities. These individuals have agreed to serve as “advisors” and are not expected to find anyone employment. There are times when alumnae advisors can make job referrals, but it is solely at their discretion.

A CAN search can be done by specific career field or by geographic area. Please call the Career Center to request a search; the report will be sent via email or regular mail.

Career Library Resources

The Career Center Library houses excellent career information in written and video formats. Most materials are available for overnight or weekend loan.
