Housing and Residence Life Staff Duties
Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Housing and Residence Life
The person in this position is responsible for the leadership and management of the University’s housing and residence life (HRL) program, directly supervising the area coordinators, graduate assistants, and undergraduate staff members. As Director of HRL, they works to provide a safe, clean, well-maintained area which promotes academic success and personal growth.
Area Coordinators
Area Coordinators (ACs) are professional staff members who live in apartments in the residence halls and report to the Assistant Dean of Students/Director of Housing and Residence Life. The Area 1 AC oversees Randolph and Tinker, focusing on the needs of new students. The Area 2 AC oversees East, West, the Hill Houses, and the apartments, focusing on specialty housing. Each AC functions as a communicator, advisor, counselor, and a friendly presence in their halls. Students may contact their AC via phone, email, voicemail, or by stopping by their office on the third floor of Moody.
Graduate Assistants
The people in this position are live-in, graduate students reporting to the ACs and Director of Housing. They assist the HRL staff in a variety of ways including mentoring the head resident assistants, monitoring programming events, and assisting the ACs with other administrative duties including returning student retention.
Head Resident Assistants
The uncommon women who fill these roles assist their ACs in the day-to-day operations of their residential area. The responsibilities of a head resident assistant (HRA) include student development, general administration, and maintenance and facility administration. HRAs fill a principal student leadership position within housing and residence life. They support and embrace the value of customer service through daily interaction with fellow students.
Resident Assistants
The first person residents should turn to when they have questions or concerns should be the resident assistant (RA) on their hall. RAs are student leaders who act as peer counselors and community builders on their floor, tending to the emotional health of floormates and the emotional tone of the floor in general. They are a vital link in the HRL program between students and professional staff.
