Hollins Can't Slow Generals Charge

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Volleyball vs Washington and Lee University, October 20, 2012

Box Score

After playing a thrilling five set match against Shenandoah University last night, Hollins played host to ODAC power Washington and Lee on Saturday afternoon.  The Generals came into the matchup having just one loss on their ODAC resume while Hollins was looking for a bit of revenge against a W&L squad that knocked them out of the ODAC Tournament a season ago.

Despite falling behind early, Hollins kept the opening frame close until a General surge put the set out of reach, 25-16.  Hollins tried to stop the Generals momentum but the road team had found a groove and behind 17 kills took the second set 25-12.  The roll continued in the third as the powerful team from Lexington matched their kill total from before and finished off a weary Hollins squad 25-16.

After being honored on "Senior Day", captain Ally Reed (Sterling, VA) delivered a solid all-around performance with 10 kills, seven digs and an assist.  Middle Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) matched Reed's 10 kills and accounted for two of Hollins five blocks while serving the team's lone ace of the match.  Libero Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) led the team with 14 digs and setter Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) paced the home team with 21 assists.

All ODAC performer M.A. Boles led Washington and Lee with 20 kills and 17 digs on the afternoon.  Anna Laussberg added 12 kills and Kasey Cannon led the team with 18 digs.  Alex Kinzer (24) and Meghan Meleski (15) combined for 39 of the Generals 49 helpers.

Hollins will play at home for the final time on Tuesday when they host Emory & Henry College in Channing Howe Gym.  The match with the Wasps is scheduled for 7:00pm.
