Huge Win For Hollins

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Volleyball vs Virginia Weskeyan College October 15, 2011

Box Score

Hollins came into Saturday looking to pick up their second ODAC win of the season.  Hollins had two shots as they hosted Virginia Wesleyan in the afternoon while reigning ODAC champion Randolph Macon was waiting in the evening.  The Marlins came into the match with a 5-3 record and sitting in fifth place in the league.  After dropping a tightly contested match against Bridgewater on Tuesday night, Hollins again found themselves in a back and forth contest.  This time Hollins took the first set in a two point, 26-24, victory.  Up one set to none, the home team again went down to the wire with VWC and again came away with the two point win (25-23).  However after a short break, the Marlins rallied to take the next two frames and set up a fifth and deciding set.  Hollins took the lead at the mid-way point and went on the 15-12 set victory and took the match 3-2.

Ally Reed (Sterling, VA/Dominion), after missing the last few matches, led the team with a match high 17 kills.  Reed also handed out three assists, recorded five total blocks, and picked up 15 digs.  Briana Taborn (Creedmoor, NC/South Granville) added eight kills on 27 attempts while Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX/Boswell) pitched in with seven kills.  The duo also combined for nine total blocks.  Setter Jesse Deese (Cary, NC/Apex) handed out 30 helpers while Morgan Russell (Peoria, AZ/Liberty) and Simone Mendez (Gardena, CA/St. Bernard) combined for 58 digs.

The Marlins got double digit kill efforts from Kayla Guy (17) and Taylor Allen (16). Amberlyn Daglian recorded a match high 31 assists while Erin Paton led the visitors with 34 digs.

Hollins will have the tough task of hosting the 2010 ODAC Champs, Randolph Macon College at 7:00pm.
