Hornets Survive Hollins Rally

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Volleyball vs Shenandoah University, September 24, 2013

Box score

Shenandoah University came to Hollins for an ODAC volleyball matchup on Wednesday night.  After failing to pick up their second conference win of the season, Hollins was looking to get back in the 'W' column against a Hornet squad in search of their first ODAC win of the season.

Hollins stumbled out of the gate as Shenandoah raced out to an early first set lead.  Hollins steadied themselves and dug in to make it a match but the lead was too great to overcome and the opening frame went to the visitors from Winchester, 25-18.  Set two was a different story as this time it was Hollins that grabbed control of the set in the early stages.  However, Shenandoah refused to let Hollins get away and slowly closed the gap.  With the match tied late, it was the Hornets that secured a hard fought 25-23 second set victory.  Down 0-2, Hollins again seized control taking another early lead.  This time the home team held Shenandoah at arms length and staved off elimination by winning a thrilling third set, 25-23.  All the momentum that Hollins had gained by winning the third was quickly taken away as the Hornets took the lead and never looked back en route to taking the set 25-20 and leaving Roanoke with a 3-1 ODAC win.
