After finally coming home from a six game, season opening road trip, the Hollins volleyball team hosted Mary Baldwin College on Friday night. It marked the first of four straight home matches for the young Hollins squad. Hollins jumped on the visiting Squirrels early and never let up en route to a three set sweep. Hollins took the match 25-13, 25-20, and 25-16. Reigning Hollins Student Athlete of the Week Ally Reed (Sterling, VA/Dominion) led the way for the home team by recording 12 kills, 13 digs, and two service aces. First year setter Jessie Deese (Cary, NC/Apex) handed out a match high 25 assists while digging seven balls. Mandi McDade (Eustis, FL/Eustis) added nine kills and 13 digs while Simone Mendez (Gardena, CA/St. Bernard) and Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX/Boswell) each added five kills. Mary Baldwin was led by Latoya Diggs and her five kills. Libero Candace Pettway added 24 digs while setter Paige Babb added 16 assists. Hollins will play two tomorrow when they host Ferrum College at 11:00am before playing Mary Baldwin again at 2:00pm. |
