Box score Marymount

Saturday afternoon saw the Hollins volleyball team travel to Lexington to face ODAC power Washington and Lee and Marymount University in a tri-match hosted by the Generals.  Hollins opens with W&L at noon before facing the Saints at 2:15.

In the first of two matches, Hollins faced off with a Washington and Lee team looking to go a perfect 6-0 in ODAC play.  Hollins started the match out and stayed competative with the favored Generals.  After a kill by reigning Hollins Student-Athlete of the Week, Jessie Deese (Cary, NC), Hollins found themselves tied with their hosts.  However, the Generals re-gained the momentum and went on to win the first set, 25-16.  The second set again saw Hollins and W&L tied at the midway point.  Eight straight General points were too much to overcome and Hollins fell, 13-25.  The third and deciding set saw the home team lead from wire to wire en route to taking the set, 25-13, and the match, 3-0.

Deese led the Hollins attack with eight kills and Rikki Martinez (Corpus Christi, TX) five.  Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) led with 14 assists while Haley Ortiz (Portsmouth, VA) recorded a team high 11 digs.

Courtney Freudenthal killed 13 of her 19 attacks.  Meghan Meleski handed out 37 assists and M.A. Boles, 11, led a trio of Generals with double digit digs.

In the second match against Marymount University, Hollins looked to get off to a quick start despite just finishing their match against W&L.  Hollins played the Saints point for point, but in the end it was Marymount that won the first set by the slimmest of margins, 25-23.  The weary Hollins squad couldn't rally against the much fresher Saints and fell in the next two sets to lose the match, 3-0.

Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) recorded seven kills and three blocks to lead Hollins at the net.  Martinez added four kills and eight digs while Moore once again led Hollins in assists, 14.  Ortiz dug out 12 balls and Emily Lowther (Woodbridge, VA) match Martinez with eight digs.

Hollins will have a few days off after playing three matches in the past three days.  Randolph-Macon will come to Roanoke for a 7:00pm start on Thursday night.
