Rematch Goes to WildCats

Lynchburg, VA - Hollins University Volleyball at Randolph College, October 17, 2012

Box Score

Hollins traveled to face Randolph College on Wednesday night.  The WildCats had defeated Hollins less than two weeks ago when the two ODAC rivals faced off in the Roanoke College Tournament with Hollins coming out on the losing side of a 3-0 score.

The first set saw a classic two point win by the home squad, 27-25.  Hollins rebounded in the second set and evened the match after a 25-20 victory.  The third set was another close affair with Randolph again taking the lead with a 25-22 win.  Hollins looked to even the match as the fourth set came to a close but it was the WildCats who came out on top (25-23) and took the match 3-1.

Hollins saw three different attackers record double digit kills.  Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) led the team with 16 while Ally Reed (Sterling, VA) added 13 and Haley Ortiz (Chesapeake, VA) 11.  Setter Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) out 38 assists on the 45 Hollins kills.  Reed and Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) each led the way with 13 digs and Hays blocked a team high five Randolph attacks while serving three aces.

The Randolph offense was led by Jordan Templin and her 15 kills.  Kerry McMichael led the home team with 18 assists as Templin recorded 21 digs.  Sam Sublett took part in five of the Randolph 10.5 blocks.

Hollins will return home for a pair of ODAC matches starting with new conference member Shenandoah on Friday night.  The match with the Hornets is scheduled to begin at 6:30pm.
