Hollins Can't Stop Hornet Attack

Lynchburg, VA - Hollins University Volleyball at Lynchburg College September 19, 2012

Box Score

For the third straight match, Hollins faced an ODAC opponent on the road.  After facing Virginia Wesleyan and Randolph-Macon over the weekend, the Hornets awaited a Hollins team in search of their first conference win of the season.

Hollins, behind a 10 kills, stayed with Lynchburg during a closely played first set.  However, the Hornets were able to pull away late and took the first set 25-19.  The second set was more of the same with Lynchburg again taking the set 25-19.  A road weary Hollins squad went quietly in the third set as Lynchburg swept Hollins 3-0.

Haley Ortiz (Chesapeake, VA) recorded five kills, an assist, seven digs and a service ace for the visitors.  Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) and Ally Reed (Sterling, VA) each added five kills while Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) led the team with 18 assists.  Libero Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) led Hollins with 17 and Hays blocked five Hornet attacks.

Aricquel Payne led Lynchburg with 14 kills and teammate Sierra Strathy added 10.  Rachel Turk handed out 24 assists while Brittany Crawford led the Hornets with 18 digs.

Hollins will step out of conference this weekend when they travel to Marymount for a tri-match this Saturday.  Hollins will play Catholic (3:00pm) and Marymount (5:00pm) looking to get back in the win column.
