Hollins Comes Up Short in Greensboro

Greensboro, NC - Hollins University Volleyball at Guilford College, October 12, 2012

Box Score

Guilford College was the opponent as Hollins looked to build on their momentum of breaking through in the ODAC win column on Wednesday night.  Hollins defeated Eastern Mennonite at home and looked for a repeat win over the Quakers, a team they had beaten in the season opening Cougar Classic back in early September.

The Quakers looked to turn the tide and avenge the Hollins 3-0 victory from opening weekend.  Guilford wasted no time, jumping out to a lead in the opening set.  Hollins rallied but couldn't complete the comeback and fell 25-22 in the first set.  The second set started much the same as the first this time with Guilford cruising to a 25-18 win.  Leading 2-0, Guilford didn't let the opportunity for revenge slip away taking the third set, 25-21, and the sweep of Hollins.

Ally Reed (Sterling, VA) led with nine kills, while Lauren Hays (Saginaw, TX) added six.  First-year setter Lela Moore (Woodleaf, NC) led the way with 17 assists and Jessie Deese (Cary, NC) recorded a team high 15 digs.  Haley Ortiz (Chesapeake, VA) served three of Hollins eight aces.

Guilford enjoyed a 38-25 lead in kills led by Brittany DeCesare with 12.  Taylor Whitley led the Quakers with 24 assists and 12 digs.

Hollins will look to get back on track with a visit to Randolph College on Wednesday night.  The ODAC match with the WildCats is scheduled to begin at 7:00pm.
