Montoya Rally Leads Hollins Past Eagles

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Tennis vs Bridgewater College, March 28, 2013

After being on the road for the past 10 days, the Hollins tennis team was back in ODAC action on Thursday afternoon.  Hollins played host to Bridgewater College on a cold and wind afternoon, in a match-up of two team tied for second place in the league standings.

Hollins won at #1 and #2 doubles to take a 2-1 lead heading into singles play.  Needing just a split in the six singles matches, Hollins made it tough on themselves by losing at #4, #5, and #6 to give Bridgewater a 4-2 lead with just three matches remaining.  After Hollins picked up wins at #1 and #3, the entire match hinged on a third set tie breaker at #2 singles.  Priscila Montoya (Delicias, Mexico) found herself trailing 3-4 in the decisive set.  The junior then turned it on, breaking her opponent twice, to win three straight games to give Hollins the 5-4 ODAC win.

Hollins will travel across town to face Roanoke College on Tuesday afternoon.  The winner of the match will gain sole possession of second place in the ODAC standings.
