Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Swimming vs. Guilford College, January 25, 2014

The Hollins University swim team competed in the pool for the final time this regular season when they hosted Guilford College on Saturday afternoon.  Hollins and the Quakers were facing off for the second time in less than 24 hours with Hollins besting Guilford, 106-66, in Greensboro last night.

Hollins won nine of the 11 events en route to defeating their ODAC rivals for the third time in less than a month, 129-56.

Meg O'Brien (Chattanooga, TN) led the way for Hollins by winning three individual events.  The junior secured first place points in the 200 Individual Medley, 100 Butterfly, and 500 Freestyle.  The 200 IM saw Hollins sweep all three of the top positions.  O'Brien won the event while Lauren Chin (Montego Bay, Jamaica) came in second and Sam Vats (Herndon, VA) finished third.  Chin came back later in the event to win the 100 Backstroke.

Hayley Caulfeild-James (Willow Street, PA) added first place points in a pair of events, the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle.  Grace Iaquinto (Huntington, WV) came in first in the 200 Freestyle and second in the 100 Breaststroke.

Michelle Douglas (Chesapeake, VA) and Cal Thompson (Minneapolis, MN) enjoyed their final swims in the Hollins pool.  The seniors earned a second and a pair of thirds while competing at home for the final time.  Douglas finished second in the 200 Freestyle while Thompson gained third place points in the 50 Freestyle and the 100 Freestyle.

Hollins will take a couple of weeks to rest up and train for the up coming ODAC Swim Championships.  Hollins will compete in the three day event starting on Friday February 7th in Greensboro, NC.
