Hollins Hosts Tri-Meet

Roanoke, VA - Hollins University Swimming vs Greensboro College and Gallaudet University, November 2, 2013


Less than 24 hours after traveling to Emory & Henry, the Hollins swim team opened up the home portion of their schedule by hosting a tri-meet.  Hollins played host to Greensboro and Gallaudet while defending their home pool for the first time this season.

Hollins finished in the top three in nine of the 11 events while picking up two wins and three runner up finishes but it wasn't enough as Hollins fell to Greensboro, 86-117, and Gallaudet, 98-107.

Claire Webber (Blauvelt, NY) won the 100 Freestyle and then came back later in the meet to pick up first place points in the 100 Breaststroke.  Hollins got off to a good start by placing third in the first event of the meet.  Amanda Young (Henrico, VA), Ashley Gao (Pearland, VA), Caitlyn Asip (Loxahatchee, FL), and Carmen Herrmann (Leonburg, Germany) got Hollins on the board early by finishing third in the 200 Medley Relay. 

Maggie Dwyer (Norwich, VT) scored a trio of second place finishes in the 1000 Freestyle, 500 Freestyle, and the 100 Butterfly.  Meg O'Brien (Chattanooga, TN) picked up third place points in the 100 Backstroke and a fourth in the 200 Individual Medley.  Hayley Caulfeild-James (Willow Street, PA) finished third in the 200 Individual Medley and fourth in the 100 Backstroke.  In her second distance event in as many days, Lauren Chin (Montego Bay, Jamaica) finished fourth in the 1000 Freestyle.

In the final event of the meet, the Hollins relay team of Young, Herrmann, Grace Iaquinto (Huntington, WV), and Michelle Douglas (Chesapeake, VA) finished third in the 400 Freestyle Relay.

Hollins will next be in the pool next Saturday when they travel to face NCAA DII Davis & Elkins.
