First-Year Claire Webber

Third for Hollins in Season Opener

Spartanburg, SC - Hollins University Swimming at Converse All Women's Invitational , October 13, 2012

Hollins traveled to South Carolina to open their 2012-13 swim season.  Hollins competed in the Converse All Women's Invitational held on the Spartanburg campus.  As the lone DIII competitor in a DII field Hollins came home third in their first action of the new campaign.

First-year swimmer Claire Webber (Blauvelt, NY) had a standout meet in her first collegiate competition.  Webber picked up two individual third place finishes in the 100 and 200 Breaststroke.  Her times in those two events set Hollins varsity records.  Claire also picked up third place points as a member of the 200 Freestyle Relay team.  Webber finished fourth in the 400 Individual Medley and was a member of the 200 Medley Relay team that also finished fourth.  Meg O'Brien (Chattanooga, TN) and Sage Otto (Hampton, VA) each set lifetime bests in the 200 Backstroke and in the 400 Individual Medley.  Caitlyn Asip (Wellington, FL) was nominated and elected Hollins Swimmer of the Meet after volunteering to represent the team in the 200 Butterfly and the 1650 (Mile).  Both events were held on the first day and were her first ever collegiate swims.

Hollins will look to build on their momentum when they take on the rest of the conference at the ODAC Relays.  The relay meet will take place on Saturday October 20th on the campus of Washington and Lee.
